Actress Melissa McCarthy has made a name for herself as America’s plus-size sweetheart, landing iconic roles in “Gilmore Girls,” “Mike and Molly,” “Bridesmaids,” and other movies without conforming to Hollywood stick-thin standards. What we love about this star is how she’s always stayed true to herself, embracing her size and never letting anyone change the way she feels about her body.
That said, McCarthy has recently undergone a pretty stunning transformation, adopting a healthier lifestyle and losing an amazing 75 pounds over the past year.
And while it’s likely her motivation came partly from personal reasons, McCarthy’s main reason for shedding all that weight was to fit the part for a role. She’s starring in the upcoming movie, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”, which is about real-life writer and forger, Lee Israel.
So how did she do it? Through a high-protein, low-carb diet known as the Ketogenic diet. It involves consuming high fats, moderate protein, and low carbohydrates to get the body to burn fat rather than carbs for energy. McCarthy also exercises on a regular basis.
While the actress is undoubtedly excited about her role in the aforementioned film, she’s also even happier with the way she feels about herself now. “I think I’m more confident than I’ve ever felt in my life. I always thought it was worth the fight. Now I know it is,” she said.
