When Nguhi Muturi was nine years old, she and her parents welcomed a new kitten, Panther, into their family.
“I loved him to pieces and used to write about him for every daily journal entry in school,” she told the Press Association. “We adopted him when he was a kitten months after we moved into this home.” Muturi grew up with her furry friend, spending many happy years with him before leaving for college. Unfortunately, that’s around the time that Panther disappeared from her Dallas, Texas home.
“He slipped out of the house and never came back,” Muturi recalled. After searching for him with no lucky, she and her parents eventually gave up and accepted Panther was gone forever. But in a crazy twist of fate, they were recently reunited with the black cat.
Five years after Panther went missing, an identical cat approached Muturi’s dad outside of his house. Panther’s front paws had been declawed, and this cat’s had been as well. But the cat didn’t just have a similar appearance to their long lost kitty — he was Panther!
As it turns out, Panther had been taken to a shelter in a city 15 miles away, where a woman adopted him, took care of him for a few years, then gave him to her parents…who just so happened to be Muturi’s neighbors. Read below for Muturi’s amazing story of how she finally got to see Panther after so many years apart.
It must be bittersweet for Muturi not to share her home with Panther anymore, but it’s so sweet of her neighbors to let her visit her old friend whenever she wants. Though he’s been through a lot since disappearing, it sounds like he’s in pretty great hands, now.
