Girl Hasn’t Cut Her Finger Nails For Four Years And It’s As Gross As You Thought It Would Be

Our hygiene isn’t negotiable. Being well-groomed is important in every aspect of our lives. Whether we’re in school or work a job, bathing regularly and attending to our physical appearance can play a major part in how others see us.

If we stink or appear unkempt, we won’t be taken seriously by our bosses or colleagues. IMHO, friends and family are responsible for mentioning this sensitive subject. If you care about someone, you’re not going to allow them to continue to go around looking sloppy or smelling unpleasant.

Those close to 16-year-old German student, Simone Taylor haven’t broached this tough topic with her. Since August of 2014, she hasn’t cut her finger or toenails. They’ve grown to a staggering six inches. Taylor uses strengthening nail polish to prevent them from breaking. It takes her 90 minutes to remove her old polish.

“It wasn’t my intention to grow them so long, but as they grew, so did the amount of compliments and they became more and more a part of me,” she explains. “During my first year, I always thought  to myself, ‘I’m gonna cut them tomorrow,’ but I never did.”

Attending to her talons isn’t a chore, but a labor of love. And when most teens complain about certain tasks, she doesn’t. “I have exams at the moment and it’s hard to write, after one hour of writing my hands really hurt. On the computer, I  have to type using my knuckles,” she explains. Taylor added that students in Germany don’t need to adhere to any specific dress code.

But her long nails haven’t stopped some from commenting. “teachers are always trying to convince me to cut my nails. They’ll never succeed in convincing me –  but that makes my grades in PE really bad,” she adds.

While her nails interfere with physical education and exams, oddly enough, they don’t get in the way when she uses the bathroom. “Funnily enough, a lot of people ask the toilet question when they see my nails for the first time,” she says, passing it off as a non-existent problem. Taylor adds she has to be careful while showering because her nails can get caught in her hair.
