Kate Middleton Is Facing Harsh Internet Criticism Over The Top Of Her Hat

Since she became engaged to Prince William back in 2010, Kate Middleton, now The Duchess of Cambridge has become a fashion icon. Women the world over seek to emulate her chic style. Catherine mixes elements of high street fashion with couture and affordable pieces, making it fun and possible for those with any budget to copy her style.

She kills it no matter what she wears; whether it’s maternity, sport, or evening wear, the pieces she is photographed in sell out fast, putting the names of designers and fashion houses on the map. These items are in high-demand and are grately coveted.

Recently, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Norway and Sweden. While in Sweden, the pair watched a sporting event. Of course, much attention was given to what The Duchess wore instead of the event itself. Many online focused their attention on the speckled-gray,  white-bobbled hat Catherine had on her head.

Prince William is an advocate for wildlife preservation and animals. Many accused Catherine of wearing a hat created by designer, Harvey Nichols where the bobble on the hat is made from actual arctic fox fur.

Social media posted photos in an attempt to compare the hat she wore with the cap by Nichols to prove Catherine was indeed wearing real fur. Understandably, the internet reacted with fury to shock. Overall, people weren’t’ happy that it seemed The Duchess had opted to wear a headpiece made of honest to goodness fox fur.

“Disgusting and inexcusable,” one Twitter user remarked.

This so-called and disproven fashion faux pas forced a spokesperson from Kensington Palace, the home of William and Catherine to issue a statement.

They denied the hat was made of real fur. they said it was created by designer, Eugenia Kim. A link to retailer, Net A Porter, was provided. You could buy the hat for £103, ($142). The hat by Kim does appear similar to the one made by Nichols. Ironically, Nichol’s hat sold out. It costs £240, ($339), proving the Duchess’s influence is still strong despite the backlash.

You be the judge. Does the hat worn by The Duchess look like it’s real fox fur or no? What do you think about wearing real fur? Would you do it? Have you worn real fur?
