Everyone has insecurities and while some of us hide them better than others, that does not mean that they do not exist. The average person is typically able put theirs into perspective by reminding themselves that there is always someone who has it worse. This story about a woman by the name of Bethany will definitely allow you to put your own insecurities into proper perspective.
When her health started to fail her, she was actually given an item that she will have to carry around with her for the foreseeable future. This item is known as an ileostomy bag. Of course, she found this issue rather difficult to deal with. In order to put aside her feelings about the matter, she elected to take some rather revealing photos.
Having a bag like this one strapped to our tummy would not make us want to pose in a bikini. Bethany is much different than the rest of us, though. She was not afraid to upload these photos and to the surprise of no one, it did not take long for the pictures to go viral. Her willingness to share the true impact of her illness struck a chord with many.
Since being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at the age of ten years old, Bethany has learned how to adapt to her condition. She does not feel sorry for herself in any way and she is providing those of us who like to throw pity parties with a much needed chance to place things in perspective. Instead of allowing herself to lose hope, she is providing sunshine to all those who find themselves in similar predicaments.
While there are many who would never allow someone to see the bag that is tasked with collecting all of their waste because their body can no longer handle the job, Bethany has no shame about her condition. After all, why should someone feel bad about something that they have absolutely no control over? Bethany deserves a lot of credit for maintaining a sunny demeanor in the face of this illness.
Bethany’s candor about the situation is a major breath of fresh air. We wish her all of the best going forward and hope that her story is able to inspire others.
