We’ve all had experiences where we don’t know how to respond. Simply put, we’re stuck.
What if you’re a mother flummoxed about how to handle something your child has just told you? You’re a parent, and this is a time where you can’t afford to say or do something wrong. It could cause harm to your relationship and your kid.
But you don’t know who to turn to. You go to a bar for help. No, this isn’t an episode of “Cheers.” But this mother needed advice, and a gay bar gave it in spades
Kara Coley is a bartender at a mostly gay bar in Mississippi. She shared this heartwarming yet hilarious story of a phone call she had with a concerned and confused mother who’s son came out to her.
I have to give this dear mother credit for seeking out advice. She went to the right place. Didn’t she?
The bartender shared this story word for word on Facebook: “So I got the most random phone call at the bar tonight! ????
Me: Good evening Thank you for calling Sipps!
Lady on the phone: Is this a gay bar?
Me: well we are a everybody bar but yes mostly gay.
Lady: can I ask you a?…”Are you gay?” asked the woman over the phone.
“Yes ma’am,” responded Coley.
“What was the one thing you wanted from your parents when you came out?”
Here’s the moment the woman has waited for. It’s one that could take some a lifetime to put into words. But Kara handled it like a pro.
Lady: My son just came out to me, and I don’t want to say anything that may mess him up in the head.
Me: Well I think that you should just make sure he knows that you love and accept, wait, do you accept it?
Lady: Well umm yes if that’s what he wants.
Me: You should definitely let him know that you love and accept him! I think everything will be ok from there!
Lady: okay well thank you.”
What else was left to be said? I’m sure Kara’s words helped the mother find her way to let her son know she loves and accepts him no matter what.
