Owner keeps her cafe open 24 hours a day, allows stray dogs to come and go as they please

While the country of Greece has recently been experiencing a great deal of economic hardship, this has not stopped its citizens from continuing to look out for one another. Difficult times have a unique way of bringing out the best in us, as Niki Belissary believes that more Greek citizens are doing more to help those who are less fortunate.

There are numerous people doing work with the homeless and with refugees and there also those who have decided to help the stray dog population. Niki recently opened her own cafe (called the Hott Spott) and its doors are open around the clock.

Thanks to Niki’s cafe, the stray dogs of the area now have the ability to come and go as they please. If they are in need of a comfortable place to sleep away from the cold or they simply wish to jump up on one of the couches to cuddle with customers, both of these options are now available to them.

The local community has also rallied around the stray dogs, taking turns feeding and housing them. It is almost as if these dogs have several different owners who are looking out for them, as opposed to just one person.

Many Greek citizens do not own a home that is large enough for them to provide shelter for stray animals and that is why they are willing to look after the street dogs together. Thanks to this unique approach, the dogs are able to enjoy a much healthier and cleaner existence.
