Flight delays. They are the absolute worst, aren’t they? I mean, you get to the airport two or three hours early, stand in the TSA line, let the TSA agent make you feel all sorts of exposed in the body scanner, and plan to get to your terminal with an hour to spare (after grabbing a snack, of course).
But then you look up at the board and see every traveler’s nightmare, especially if they have connecting flights: “Flight Delayed: 3 hours.” I don’t know about you, but my impatient blood runs cold whenever I see that. Why did I bother showing up early? Now what am I gonna do for the next four hours? There are only so many celebrity magazines you can read before you really start to resent the hell out of famous people and all those snacks are expensive.
Even short delays can be annoying, and passengers on one Alaska Airlines flight know exactly what I mean. They had the distinct displeasure of sitting ON the plane while they were delayed, which is a form of cosmic punishment. One passenger, in particular, appeared to be having an issue with the situation.
An older woman dealing with dementia got extremely scared while they were waiting to take off, and I mean, I feel you girl. Flying is terrifying. Airline workers soon caught on, and what one woman captured them doing will warm your cold, dead heart.
Here’s what Kristen Wiley watched unfold in her own words:
We are currently sitting on a plane, with a 45-minute delay. Why? Because there is an elderly woman suffering from dementia, who is very upset and confused. The incredible staff of #alaskaairlines is being extremely patient and compassionate, in what can only be a very scary situation for her. Explaining every step, cuddling her dog, working with her husband/caregiver to find the best solution. In short, the entire crew giving so much kindness. This is how I would want my mother, my sister, my aunt, my daughter, my niece, my friend cared for.
Thank you, Alaska Airlines Flight # 748 for giving #firstclassservice to EVERY passenger.
Please Note: Alaska Airlines calmly assisted the woman, her husband/caregiver, and sweet pup off the plane, providing hotel and transportation with plans to rest up and try again the following day. Again, incredible compassion given to the both of them while quietly explaining the situation to other passengers.
UPDATE: The woman’s daughter reached out and confirmed her mom and dad reached their final destination safely. Wishing their family the very best as they continue to care for her ♥️
That’s amazing isn’t it? It’s important that we always treat others as we would want to be treated, and it’s clear that those Alaska Airlines employees take that to heart.
