Nala Rose is a cute puppy with a very unique defect. While she was born with eyelids, she does not have eyes to speak of. Even though she was healthy in every other way, her owners were still giving serious thought to putting her down. This tiny poodle was just a few weeks old at the time and if her family had their way, she would be put down before she even had the chance to make it to her first birthday.
The prognosis was not looking good for poor Nala. As for the breeder who is responsible, they are at a loss for how to explain it. When the dog was first born, they considered putting her to sleep because they were concerned about the quality of life that she would be able to enjoy. The breeders also had concerns about the puppy’s ability to find a home because they were not planning on taking her in themselves.
They elected to take the dog to a rescue to see if they could get some help for the animal before it was too late. St. Louis Senior Dog Project was willing to take her in and they explained to the breeders that she would be fine. She does not know what it is like to be able to see. In essence, Nala Rose is going to be okay because she does not even know what she is missing out on.
Joan Wiegers is the volunteer from this project who decided that she would be willing to take the puppy in and she did so with very little hesitation. She cared for the dog until she became old enough to head to a new home. From there, she brought Nala Rose to an adoption event to see if she could find her a forever home. She was able to find a new mother who is going to love her forever.
The family that took her in found out what would happen if they did not take her in and they were not about to let such an unspeakable event take place. Kudos to them for being willing to step up to the plate. There are not a lot of people who would put their fears and doubts to the side to help a dog like this one. It makes us happy to share a world with people who are able to go above and beyond like this.
Nala Rose is going to be a part of this family’s life for years to come. If this story touched your heart in the same way that it did ours, please be sure to pass it along to your closest friends and loved ones immediately.
