Austin Powers star, Verne Troyer, died at the age of 49 on April 21st in an L.A. hospital. His death certificate was obtained by TMZ and lists his cause of death as ‘deferred’ This status means officials are still unclear how he died.
For years, Troyer openly battled alcohol addiction; toxicology reports are still outstanding. He called medics himself on April 3rd, admitting he was suicidal. On his admittance into the hospital, he had three-times the alcohol level in his system. He was placed in intensive care when he became unresponsive.
His organs began to fail. Shortly after, his family was left with the heart-wrenching decision to take him off life support.
Troyer’s death certificate did reveal he has already been cremated; his remains will be returned to Michigan and interned there.
In a statement issued by his family, they hinted that their loved one suffered from depression. “It is with great sadness and heavy hearts to write that Verne passed away today,” it read.
Despite their loss and immense grief, they offer words of support and encouragement to those battling their own inner struggles. “You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside. But be kind to one another. And always know, it’s never too late to reach out to someone for help.”
