You’ve probably experienced the nightmare at least once: you’re out in public, or maybe at your school or job when all of the sudden, you look down and realize you’re stark naked. While it’s a horrifying realization to make, you take relief in the fact that it was only a dream when you wake up. You’d never willingly go outside with any clothes on in real life — that is, unless you happen to be this brave model.
Body painter Jen Seidel has a mission to push the boundaries of how little clothing a person can possibly get away with wearing in public, and she accomplishes this pretty well with the help of body paint. During one of her most recent social experiments, she painted her model, Ali, to create the illusion that she was wearing sportswear, when in fact, she was wearing next to nothing.
Once finished, Ali, armed with a yoga mat, went to the harbor in Baltimore, Maryland, wearing nothing by nipple pasties, panties, and body paint. Seidel was excited to find out whether people would notice if the woman practicing yoga in front of them was practically naked, and funnily enough, nearly no one noticed until she began speaking with them.
“What do you see different about her?” Seidel asked.
Taking a closer look, a guy laughed and said, “Oh my God. What the hell? I thought it was an outfit!”
“Oh my God, I’m so dumb,” a young woman said. “It’s paint.”
“What gave it away?” the camera operator asked.
“The butt,” a man replied as his partner laughed.
